International Polo player and young horse educator Kit Brooks has taught his rescue pup Barrel a thing or two about being around horses- including riding them!

Where did you first meet Barrel?
I first met Barrel in a rescue home in Hamilton, (my partner) Bianca found him through Facebook! So we went to visit him and knew he was the one for me! -
I’ve seen some pretty awesome pics of Barrel atop a horse, did that take much encouragement?
Barrel loves jumping/climbing up things! Literally anything I tell him to jump on he will. So a horse was just another obstacle. But he is very happy when he’s up there!

Does Barrel join you at work every day? Is there anywhere he doesn’t go?
Barrel comes to work with me everyday! He has the best of both worlds. During the day he runs riot on the farm, and then comes home at night.
If dogs are welcome Barrel comes with me - including Polo! -
What’s the best thing about your relationship with Barrel?
The best thing about my relationship with Barrel is his loyalty. He basically keeps an eye on me 24/7.

Now that a new puppy (Rex) has joined the gang, has that changed your dynamic?
Rex has also come from another Rescue centre. He is basically Barrels shadow now, like the little brother who idolises his big brother!
My dynamics with Barrel have not really changed though, Barrel just has to share my love slightly!

What is your top dog training tip?
Dog training tips!? I think I got lucky!! Get a trainable dog! Barrel has always been so easy to teach things, and is willing to please!
